During our recent trip to Africa, we identified several individuals in need of assistance since part of our mission is to improve the overall well being of people in rural communities.
One individual was a very pleasant man in his late 40s, who had BKA (below the knee amputation) several years ago. However, due to severe discomfort and repeated trauma from his prosthetic limb, he remains in dire need of a new prosthetic limb at this time in order to improve his quality of life. We promised to assist him in every possible way.
Another individual was a woman, in her early 40s who informed us that she was having severe menorrhagia (too much menstrual flow) and constant lower abdominal “heaviness”/pain. Considering the possible etiologies, our medical team advised her to go to her doctor and get a pelvic ultrasound, but she did not have the means to pay for that. Hence we promised her that we would do everything possible to help her have the pelvic ultrasound and further management if need be.
Also, the selfless Ophthalmologist, who continues to perform eye surgeries for little or no charge, requested OR outfits and we promised to help.
Luckily few days ago, we received our first-ever external donation! Dr. Ray Hubbe, MD. an ophthalmologist and the Director of the Nevis Eye Care Program graciously donated $200 (aprox 72000 naira) to MaduCare Inc and in line with our policy of transparency and public accountability, here's the plan for this donation:
We will send $70 to the woman with pelvic pain/menorrhagia to pay for the sonogram and we will upda
te her progress here.
We will also buy and send surgical outfits (est $60 ) to the Ophthalmologist and his team to continue the excellent work they're doing.
The balance will go the individual who needs prosthetic limb although it won't be enough to purchase the limb. We will continue to send funds to this individual as we receive, until he is able to acquire a new prosthetic limb (current estimate of prosthetic limb:$5000 - $15000)
