New year report

Hello MaduCarers,

Happy new year! The year 2020 was challenging on a global scale and our target communities were not exempt from the hardship brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. As the fear and uncertainties of a deadly disease loomed, a greater fear of hunger, starvation, and crippling poverty, unfortunately, was a more formidable adversary for members of our communities.

Our local community experienced unimaginable poverty. So many breadwinners lost their livelihood due to the lockdown restrictions and countless families were further thrown into abject poverty. Although our resources were scarce, we were able to mobilize a task force to educate our community about the realities of the virus, hence fostering a trust that has enabled us to provide food and PPE to the most vulnerable population at their most vulnerable time. Our special thanks go out to Dr. Mancuso (NJ, USA), an excellent physician educator whose donation helped offer some of the needed resources that catalyzed our projects.

As always, we are grateful for the love and support from our local and global partners. The pandemic is far from over, our communities continue to be ravished by the long-standing barriers to wellness, these challenges have been compounded and amplified by COVID-19. As we continue to monitor the global challenges, our focus will always be on our local communities and the challenges that are ever so present. These challenges preceded the pandemic and unfortunately will be there long afterward. Together, we have made impacts and will continue to make an impact.

Remember, here at MaduCare, although we are globally minded, we will always be locally driven.

Be well,

Peter Maduka
